Anniversaries/Annuals

Damascus Missionary Baptist Church in Grady will observe the 10th anniversary honoring their pastor and wife, Rev. and Mrs. Robert Scott Sr., at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Glen Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.

The Word is Life Ministry, 1717 S. Main St., will observe the 11th pastoral anniversary honoring Mertha Woods at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Elder Lugene Boyd, pastor of Redeem Temple Church of God in Christ.

Mt. Pleasant AME Church, 1201 N. Magnolia St., will observe its 130th church anniversary starting with the Circle of Wisdom Banquet at 5 p.m. Saturday. Honorees include Evelyn Burkett, Goldie Bush, Marie Coleman, Fred Crater, Roberta Coleman, Vetory Davis, Ora Donaldson, Earnestine Freeman, Hattie Grandy, Christine Hawkins, Mattie Johnson, Syble Lee, Agnes Maxwell, Ruby Pruitt, Almamie Ragland, Arthur Ridgell, Addie Robinson, Earline Shorter, C.N. Toney Sr., Augusta Willis and Gale Wimberly. At 3 p.m. Sunday, the anniversary service will feature Bishop Samuel L. Green Sr., the presiding bishop of the 12th Episcopal District of the AME Church, as the guest speaker.

Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 S. Indiana St., will host the sixth anniversary of Returning to the Hood Eastside Reunion at 10 a.m. Monday. Also, family and friends day will be observed at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Jerusalem No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer will observe the 28th anniversary honoring Rev. Ulysses Dunlap and wife starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Darrell Graydon, pastor of First Baptist Church of Altheimer, as the guest minister. Also, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday the guest speaker will be Rev. James Barnes Jr., pastor of New St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. The guest choir will be New St. James choir.

Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4807 W. Sixth Ave., will observe the 22nd appreciation program honoring Rev. George H. Barnes Sr. and wife, Earnestine Barnes, at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Aaron E. Barnes Sr. of New Home Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff.

Truth and Love Worship Center Church, 2006 W. 13th Ave., will hold its 28th victory day celebration service Sunday. On Saturday there will be a fundraiser at 7 a.m., drive-by prayer to start at 10:30 a.m., at 11 a.m. the dedication of Mother Hellums’ Hospitality House, and the church will be feeding the community at noon. Other festivities will be 3-on-3 basketball games, face painting wading pool, demonstrations by Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department and others.

New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will observe the 10th appreciation celebration honoring the pastor and wife, Rev. Patrick Lockett and Janice Lockett, a missionary, starting at 11 a.m. Sunday with the guest speaker Rev. Lee Whitiker, pastor of Solid Rock Baptist Church, as the guest speaker. The celebration continues with the following speakers at 7 p.m. on these dates: Tuesday, Bishop Jewel R. Withers Jr., jurisdictional prelate of Arkansas First Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ; Wednesday, Rev. Christopher Davis from St. Paul Baptist Church of Memphis; and Thursday, Zachary Williamson, bishop of New Life Gospel Church of Saginaw, Mich.

Evangelistic Outreach Church and Ministries, 620 L.A. Prexy Drive, will celebrate the 33rd anniversary of its pastor and apostle, Emma L. Luckett. At 7 p.m. Thursday, the guest speaker will be K.D. Mixon, bishop of Victory Faith Church and at 7 p.m. Friday, the church will hold the Prophetic Singing of Honour. At 3 p.m. Sept. 8, the guest speaker will be Shirley Sanders, bishop of Greater Deliverance Global Ministry.

Men’s/Women’s Day

Main Street Church of God in Christ, 2901 S. Main St., will hold its annual women’s day Sunday starting at 9 a.m. with family prayer and at 11 a.m. Michelle Heard will be the guest speaker. At 3 p.m., the keynote speaker will be Cora Withers, first lady of the Malvern District and Living Waters Church of God in Christ of Hot Springs.

Eternal Life Ministry, 503 Pryce St., will hold its annual women’s conference at 7 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. Sept. 7. The guest speaker will be Cheryle Highsmith, a pastor from Fordyce.

Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 S. Cypress St., will hold its annual men’s and women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The special guests will be Rev. Darrel Graydon and the First Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer.

New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Cornerstone will hold its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Lee Nora Savage of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. Also, women’s day choir rehearsal will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Altheimer.

New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1317 Texas St., will hold its annual women’s day at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Felicia Coleman of Happy Home Baptist Church.

Concerts

The Monthly Union Night of the Pine Bluff Quartet Local has been cancelled for Sunday at Family Time Baptist Church Ministries but will convene the first Sunday in October.

New Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Sherrill will hold a concert at 5 p.m. Sunday. The featured guest will be Rev. Cedric Hayes, pastor of Gloryland Family Fellowship Church of North Little Rock, who has conducted workshops throughout the U.S. and his choir has performed with Vickie Winans, Kirk Franklin and Bobbie Jones.

Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1304 S. Apple St., will hold the 32nd anniversary of the White Family Singers starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. At 6 p.m. Sunday, the sermon will be given by Rev. Jessie Jackson, pastor of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Meroney.

Revivals

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 Port Road, will hold fellowship revival at 7 nightly. The guest speakers will be Wednesday, Rev. Darren Edgerson of St. Peters Rock Baptist Church; Thursday, Rev. Anthony Craig of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church; and Friday, Rev. Leon Williams Sr. of True Vine “E” Missionary Baptist Church.

Newbirth Baptist Church, 401 E. Fifth Ave., will hold revival services at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The guest preacher on Wednesday will be the Rev. Carlos Kelly, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of North Little Rock and Conway. On Thursday and Friday, the guest preacher will be the Rev. H.B. Charles Jr., pastor of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church at Jacksonville, Fla.

Special Events

First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will hold rehearsal for New Hope AME Church of Sherrill at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3006 Kentucky St., will hold their annual choir day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Frank Harris Jr. of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

St. Peter Catholic Church, 207 E. 16th Ave., welcomes Cardinal George Alencherry, the spiritual leader of Syro Malabar Catholic Church in India, Thursday at 9 a.m. to celebrate Mass.

Bethlehem Worship Center of Dumas presents Youthful Praise and Worship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 Catalpa St., will hold a mission service at 7 p.m. Sunday. The featured speaker will be Elder Otis Walters and the guest soloist will be Onie Walters.

New Beginnings Family Ministries of El Dorado will hold its second annual motorcycle rally and bike run Sept. 7. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the cost is $10 per bike with every sixth biker free. All proceeds will go to the New Beginnings Family Ministries youth department.

Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 719 S. Ohio St., will hold an appreciation service honoring the pastor’s wife, Lisa Walker, at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The guest speaker will be Janice Lockett, the first lady and missionary of New Community Church of Pine Bluff.
