Anniversaries/Annuals

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 Port Road, will observe the 32nd pre-anniversary honoring its pastor, Rev. Robert Willis Jr., at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guests will include Rev. George Toney and the 16 Section Missionary Baptist Church and Choir in Monticello and the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and Choir in Noble Lake.

Bethel New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2522 N. Pryce St., will observe the 22nd anniversary honoring its pastor and wife, Rev. Roosevelt Simmons and Estella Simmons, at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Roosevelt Simmons Jr., of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Gethsemane.

New Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 N. Lindell St., will hold its 53rd church anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. The special guests will be Rev. E. McKnight and the Eudora Missionary Baptist Church.

The 97th Greater St. Marion Baptist District Congress will hold the 87th annual session of the young people’s department at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 Missouri St., at 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday. The commencement and banquet dinner will be at 6 p.m. Friday. The instructors and classes will be as follows: Rev. Charles Helloms Jr., Baptist Doctrine; Margarette Williams, Public Speaking; and Donald L. Agee, Characteristic of Expository Preaching.

Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will hold its annual ushers’ program at 3 p..m. Sunday. The guest preacher will be Rev. Darren Edgerson, pastor of St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

St Paul AME Church, Highway 190 West, will hold its annual choir day at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The special guest will be Rev. Alvin Smith Sr. of St. John AME Church in Pine Bluff.

Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 S. Cypress St., will hold its 123rd church anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. The special guests will be Rev. Sylvester Kearney and the Paradise Missionary Baptist Church of Grady.

Happy Home Missionary Baptist Church, 4312 Highway 365 South, will observe its second annual appreciation day honoring its pastor and wife, Rev. Jerome Rowland and Katina Rowland, at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest minister will be Rev. Dexter McDonnell, pastor of God’s Way Fellowship Church of Pine Bluff.

Unity Temple Church of God in Christ, 4401 W. Sixth Ave., will hold Friends and Family Day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The special guests will be Rev. Gary Bell and the First Assembly of God Church of Pine Bluff.

Prairie Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 2611 Indiana St., will hold their annual ushers’ day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Alvin Dunlap and musical guests will be Men in Black.

Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Grady will host their annual joint revival with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Paradise. The guest speaker will be Rev. Melvin Harrison, pastor of St. Ollie Baptist Church of Star City.

Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will hold its 128th church anniversary starting at 8 a.m. Saturday with a community fellowship and at 6 p.m. a banquet will be held at the Pine Bluff Convention Center with guest speaker Robert Dickerson Jr. of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church of Columbus, Ga. Sunday at 11 a.m. the guest minister will be Rev. Robert Willingham Jr., coordinator of the E.C. Morris Ministers’ Institute, and at 3 p.m. the speaker will be T.R. Ramey, pastor of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Mitchellville.

Christian Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 E. Seventh Ave., will observe the 15th pastoral appreciation program honoring Rev. Robert Thomas Sr. and Mamie Thomas at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest preacher will be Rev. David Marks, pastor of Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Moscow.

Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Varner will observe the 28th anniversary honoring Rev. and Mrs. Ernest Jenkins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The guest messenger will be Rev. J.L. Morton, pastor of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Dumas.

St. Andrew AME Church, 701 Franklin St., will hold its annual Family and Friends’ Day Pew Rally at 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be various talents presented from Pine Bluff.

New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will observe the 10th appreciation program honoring the first lady and missionary, Janice Lockett, at 4:30 p.m. today. The guest speaker will be Cynthia R. Howard, the first lady of Grace Temple Baptist Church of Pine Bluff.

Concerts

Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Grant St., will host the 2013 anniversary tour of Rev. James Spinks and Endure of Dumas at 6 p.m. Saturday. Guest artists include the Jacksonaires of Star City and Tina Daniel of Pine Bluff.

Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church, 3703 Ryburn Road, will hold a musical service at 6 p.m. Sunday. The featured guests will be the Spiritualettes and Men In Christ.

Men’s/Women’s Day

Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3006 Kentucky St., will hold their annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Bobbie Brooks of Marzell Missionary Baptist Church of Tamo.

New Cheeks Chapel AME Church in Pastoria will hold its women’s day program at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Melondy Darrough of New Salem Baptist Church in Pastoria.

St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 S. Catalpa St., will hold its annual women’s day at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be DaNeen Higgins of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church.

Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Ladd will hold its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Daryl Graydon, pastor of First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer. The guest choir will be Southeast Arkansas Male Chorus.

St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen St., will hold its annual men’s day Sunday at 11 a.m. with Monte Coleman, head football coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, as the guest speaker.

Greater Ward Chapel AME Church, 3700 W. Sixth Ave., will hold its annual men’s day Sunday. At 11 a.m. the speaker will be the pastor, Rev. Eddie L. Harris Jr. At 3:30 p.m., Rev. Renice Davis, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.

Revivals

Pine Bluff Baptist Area Ministers Alliance will sponsor the Annual City Wide Revival at First Assembly of God, 1002 Ridgway Road, at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with Rev. Glenn Barnes speaking and Friday with Rev. Steven King speaking.

Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 719 S. Ohio St., will hold its summer revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Rickey E. Parks, pastor of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church of Champaign, Ill.

First Baptist Church in Gould will hold its revival at 7 p.m. on these dates with the following speakers: Monday, Rev. Robert A. Anderson and Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer; Tuesday, Rev. Roosevelt Barnes Jr. and Ash Street Missionary Baptist Church of Dermott; Wednesday, Rev. Aaron Barnes and New Home Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff; Thursday, Rev. Donald Manning and Thomas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Gould; and Friday, Rev. Timothy Pratt and Wheeler Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff.

The Community Church Fellowship revival services will be held at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Altheimer at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The evangelist will be Rev. Leroy Spears Jr., pastor of Union Missionary Baptist Church. The fellowship includes Macedonia, New Morning Star, St. Andrew and Union Missionary Baptist churches.

Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Grady will hold revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Melvin Harrison, pastor of St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church of Star City.

Special Events

Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 S. Grant St., will be celebrating “The Fruits of the Spirit” program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The guest churches will be New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Richardson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Damacus Baptist Church, all of Moscow, Rankins Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Gould, Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church and Bethany Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff.

City Wide Mission will meet at Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Grace Episcopal Church, 4101 S. Hazel St., will hold a special worship service Sunday. Special guest Rev. Larry Benfield, the Episcopal Bishop of Arkansas, will be here for his official annual visit. Starting at 9 a.m. he will lead the forum and a light breakfast will be served. At 10:30 a.m. Benfield will be the celebrant and preacher at Holy Eucharist.

St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Sherrill will hold a musician appreciation day honoring Lashonda Gamble at 11 a.m. Sunday. Words of encouragement will be given by Rev. Ralph Love, associate minister of Indiana Street Baptist Church. Also, the choir anniversary and sermon will be at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Wiley Shelton, pastor of Motley Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, as the speaker.

The 100 Men Who Care, Inc. will meet at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1404 S. Georgia St., at 6 p.m. Sunday. This organization is planning to distribute school materials in the Pine Bluff, Dollarway, and Watson Chapel school districts.

Youth

Young Men of Valor and Young Women of Excellence will hold a back-to-school conference for ages 6 - 18 today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The young men will meet at the First Trinity Annex Building, Sixth Avenue and Catalpa Street, and the young women will meet at First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Catalpa St. Backpacks with school supplies will be given to the first 50 youths at each location. Lunch will be provided. Speakers will encourage youth to do their best for the upcoming school year.

First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Catalpa St., will hold its annual Youth Day and Back-to-School Musical Sunday. Youth Day will start at 10 a.m. and the guest speaker will be Rev. Timothy Hannah of Texarkana, Texas. The musical will be at 6 p.m. and guests include Glory Revealed, Byron Bickham and Company and Michelle Johnson.

Unity Temple Church of God in Christ, 4401 W. Sixth Ave., will hold its Youth Revival at 6 p.m. today. The guest speaker will be Seth Mitchell, a prophet and member of Kingdom Builders Church of God of Christ of Pine Bluff.

Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 2915 S. Main St., will hold its annual Youth Day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Rayshawn Howard of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

The Back-to-School musical that was to be held at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Saturday has been cancelled.
