Anniversaries/ Annuals

The Word is Life Ministry, 1717 S. Main St., will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its pastor, Mertha Woods, on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Freddie Heard, pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Grady, will be the guest speaker.

St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will be honoring its pastor and wife, the Rev. Willie A. Rogers Jr. and Vonda Rogers on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Hosea Miller will be the guest speaker.

New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will be holding its ninth appreciation celebration, honoring its pastor and wife, the Rev. Patrick and Janice Lockett, on Sunday at 3 p.m. Bishop Steven M. Arnold of Grace Temple in Little Rock will be the guest speaker.

Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4807 W. Sixth Ave., will be celebrating the 21st appreciation program for its pastor and wife, the Rev. George H. Barnes Sr. and Earnestine Barnes, on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. William Easter of Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock will be the guest speaker.

New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 500 Bois D’Arc St., will be celebrating the 11th anniversary of its pastor and wife, the Rev. Robert Williams and Benetha Williams. Saturday at 7 p.m., Jenise Sandy Blake will be the guest speaker for lady’s night. The celebration continues Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Keyes as the guest speaker.

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will be holding its annual family and friends day on Sunday at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. David Smith, pastor of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church.

Mount Olive AME Church at Tarry will be celebrating the fourth appreciation program honoring its pastor, the Rev. Tonja Hudson, on Sunday at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Bramus Jackson Jr., pastor of St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church at Cornerville.

Second Missionary Baptist Church at Wabbaseka will celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the Rev. and Mrs. Graylin Wilson on Sunday at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Cook, pastor of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Selma.

The Truth and Love Worship Center Church of God in Christ, 2006 W. 13th Ave., will host its Victory Day and 27th anniversary starting with a music workshop Saturday at noon by the Rev. Harold Wade of Little Rock. At 3 p.m. Sunday, the speaker will be the Rev. Jordan Houston, an evangelist of Memphis.

Jerusalem No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer, will be having its 27th appreciation program honoring its pastor, Rev. Ulysses Dunlap, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Will Robinson of St. Louis will be the guest speaker. The celebration will continue on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Dodson of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer.

The St. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church at Meroney will be having an appreciation service for the pastor and wife, Rev. Roderick and Angelia Sowers, at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Julian Jasper Sr., pastor of Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wis.

Concerts/Musicals

New Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will be holding its 2012 annual musical starting at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Sensational Soul Revivals will be celebrating their 65th anniversary on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m., at Mount Camel Baptist Church, 900 S. Grant. The special guest will be the Rev. Royce Jackson and The Sensational Hearts of Star City. At 6 p.m. Sunday, the celebration continues with special guest, the William Singers.

The 23rd anniversary for the Rison Community Choir will be at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Faith on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Thomas Young from Union Hill Church in Rison will be the guest speaker.

The White Family singers will celebrate their 31st anniversary at Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1304 S. Apple St., at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday featuring various groups.

Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3006 Kentucky St., announces its Annual Choir Day Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Larry Alexander, pastor of St. Peter Rock Missionary Baptist Church of Dumas, will be the guest speaker.

Special Events

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will honor its first lady, Stephanie Willis, at 7 p.m. Sept. 8. The guest speaker will be Linda Jones of Bethlehem Worship Center of Dumas. Musical guests include Spiritualettes and Pure Purpose.

Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 W. 26th Ave., will be observing its annual Sunday School Day on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Johnny B. Handley, pastor of Seven Star Missionary Baptist Church at Tillar will be the guest speaker.

Women/Men’s Day

Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, 9405 Middle Warren Road, will be having a women’s day program on Sunday at 3 p.m. Twana Nuniss, an evangelist, will be the guest speaker. She is the author of “Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places.”

The New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 14th Avenue and Texas Street, will be observing its annual women’s day program on Sunday at 11 a.m. Felecia Coleman of Happy Home Missionary Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.

New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Cornerstone will be having its women’s day choir rehearsal on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Altheimer. The annual women’s day will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at New Morning Star and the guest speaker will be Cynthia Renee Howard of Grace Temple Baptist Church.

St. James United Methodist Church, 900 N. University Drive, will celebrate Women’s Emphasis Month beginning with a kickoff worship and rededication service at 10 a.m. Sunday and a juvenile center bible study (girl talk) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at 301 E. Second Ave.
