Highway department opens bids for Bradley County

The Arkansas State Highway Commission awarded a contract to a Pine Bluff company to make improvements to a roadway in Bradley County.

Pine Bluff Sand & Gravel Co. was awarded the contract at $1,235,830 to resurface 2.5 miles of County Road 2, east of the community of Marsden.

“These improvements will be located between Highway 160 and County Road 134,” Bradley County Judge Keith Neely said.

Commission Chairman R. Madison Murphy of El Dorado said the County Road project is funded through the State Aid Road Program established by the legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

This program provides approximately $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist counties with projects on the county road system.

Murphy said work could begin on the project in two to four weeks, weather permitting. Completion is expected in the summer of 2012.
