Two PBHS students take top prizes in art competition

Two Pine Bluff High School art students brought home first-place awards Monday from the Arkansas Young Artist Association Spring Competition/Convention at the State House Convention Center in Little Rock.

Ashley Gragg, an 11th-grader, won first place in the category of Colored Pencil Expressive. Michael Shelton, a 12th-grader, won first place in the category of First Year Black and White Reproduction.

Art instructor and Art Club sponsor Virginia Hymes accompanied the group, which also included Rosemary Campbell, Ineshia Clark, Corinthian Fletcher, Elizabeth Galloway, Victoria Grady, Raven James, Sarah Jordan, Jeremy Kelly, Jasmine Moore, Jalia Steward and Lacatherine Williams.

Lenore Shoults, director of the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, received the Patron of the Arts award.

The AYAA provides qualifying seniors with the opportunity to receive scholarships.
