Turner receives MLK Drum Major award

The Rev. Jesse C. Turner, executive director of Interested Citizens for Voter Registration, Inc. has been awarded the MLK Drum Major for Service Award.

“While government can open more opportunities for us to serve our communities, it is up to each of us to seize those opportunities,” President Barack Obama wrote in a letter notifying Turner of the honor. “Thank you for your devotion to service and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great nation.”

Accompanying the letter from Obama is a certificate from the Corporation for National and Community Service that presents Turner with the 2013 Drum Major for Service Award.

“I am truly proud to serve the community that I grew up in but more importantly to be recognized by the President of the United States and other national leaders, is awesome,” Turner said. “All I can say is to God be the glory for the things He has done and continues to do through me.”
