Rev. Kenneth Thornton has been named the new pastor at First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St., where he began his ministry in Pine Bluff Jan. 2.
Originally from Vicksburg, Miss., Thornton previously served as pastor of the Berean Baptist Church in Memphis and the Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia, La.
A major, Thornton serves as a U.S. Air Force Reserve chaplain as the Senior Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Wing Chaplain at the Little Rock Air Force Base.
Thornton received a bachelor of arts degree from Central Baptist College in Conway in 1982, a master of divinity degree in 1989 from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, completed a full year residency in clinical pastoral education at Wilford Hall Medical Center at San Antonio, Texas, in 2006, and received a master of arts in management and leadership degree from Webster University in St. Louis, Mo., in 2007.
Thornton is married to the former Ann Johnson of England and they have two sons, Craig and Jonathan, and two granddaughters.
