Jefferson native Percy Stokes received the fourth quarter 2012 safety award from Pine Bluff Arsenal in October.
An industrial worker for the arsenal’s Directorate of Ammunition Operations, Stokes received the award by “displaying superior safety emphasis during his work assignment,” a spokesman said.
“Mr. Stokes sets the example for his co-workers by giving high priority to following safety procedures and encouraging others to utilize proper safety practices,” according to the award certificate. “His effort is instrumental to attaining our goal of reducing the injury rate and lost time expenses. Mr. Stokes’ safety emphasis on the job is a credit to himself, his co-workers and an asset to the mission of Pine Bluff Arsenal.”
The award was presented to Stokes at a business briefing in October.
Stokes, who has worked at the arsenal for 10 years, currently lives in White Hall. He is married and has four children. He enjoys fishing and hunting.
The arsenal’s safety employee of the quarter is an award based on criteria submitted by co-workers. This program supports the importance of having “employee involvement,” and gives all employees the opportunity to recognize fellow workers who are good examples when it comes to safety.
Individuals are recognized for their safe work practices by knowing and following safe work operations, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, working accident free, looking for ways to make the work place safer, staying alert to hazards, encouraging safe behavior in the work place and participation in safety meetings.
