Ground will be broken at 10 a.m. Wednesday for the new Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department building, which will be located adjacent to the adult detention center.
The building will be named the John Lloyd “Pete” Harrison Sheriff’s Department building after former Chief Deputy Peter Harrison, who worked for the department for 41 years, and was chief deputy from 1976 until his retirement Dec. 31, 2004. Harrison died at the age of 67.
Sheriff’s Department Operations Commander Major Lafayette Woods Jr. said the ceremony will also feature the debut of the first sheriff’s department flag that will be flown outside the building upon its completion.
Parking will be available near the jail for the dedication.
