Residents can receive free tax help Saturday

The Pine Bluff Wealth Building Coalition will offer free income tax filing services from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave. Tax preparation will be on a first come basis.

The coalition offers free income tax filing services to individuals and families with an annual earned income of $50,270 and below. Participants should bring:

• Social Security numbers for yourself and dependents

• Your picture ID

•W-2s for all jobs held in 2012

• Voided check or deposit slip for direct deposit

Other items may also be needed, including:

• Form 1099s (1099-G, 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, etc.)

• Form 1098-T (tuition expenses)

• Form 1098 (Mortgage interest payment)

• Documentation of childcare expenses and childcare provider information (agency ID or SSN of the provider)

If you are filing married jointly, both taxpayers need to be present Saturday.

Services will be offered by coalition members including Arkansas Community Organization (formerly ACORN), Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas and the Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc., which is sustaining this program initiated under Weed and Seed.

Residents are urged to take full advantage of the free income tax preparation.

“Dollars saved and returned into the local economy through paying off a bill or making a down payment on a home or buying a computer will certainly be a boost to the city’s local economy,” a spokesman said.

Simmons First National Bank will have representatives on hand to help persons establish a checking or saving account. Taxpayers who use direct deposit will receive their return faster than those who receive their checks through the mail.
