PB school district names spelling bee winners

The Pine Bluff School District announces winners in spelling bees.

The K-3rd grade students competed Dec. 18 and the winners were:

• Kindergarten: 1st place - Josilyn Kearney (34th Avenue); 2nd place - Colton Dill (Southwood Elementary)

• First grade: 1st place - Jillian Kearney (34th Avenue); 2nd place Tiffany Jackson (W. T. Cheney)

• Second grade: 1st place - Samuel Sanders (Greenville); 2nd place - Al Fitzpatrick (Oak Park)

• Third grade: 1st place - Christopher Goodrum (Southwood); 2nd place - Jaimi Ingram (W. T. Cheney)

K-3rd grade 1st place winners received trophies and will compete in the Jefferson County Spelling Bee, which is scheduled for Jan. 22.

Pine Bluff’s 4th-8th grade spelling bee was held Dec. 17 and winners were:

• Fourth grade: 1st place - Jhaiya Advise (34th Avenue); 2nd place- Nicholas Rochelle (W. T. Cheney)

• Fifth grade: 1st place - Brian Evans (Broadmoor); 2nd place - Tyler Foots (W.T. Cheney)

• Sixth grade: 1st place - Maiya Reed (Belair); 2nd place - McKinnli Jackson (Southeast)

• Seventh grade: 1st place - Shakerra Laws (Southeast); 2nd place - Diamond Harris (Belair)

• Eighth grade: 1st place - Raymond Wallace (Jack Robey).

Maiya Reed was the overall winner in the 4th-8th grade competition, receiving two trophies as the winner of her grade level and for the overall winner of the Pine Bluff School District Spelling Bee. Maiya will compete in the Jefferson County Spelling Bee at 6 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Arkansas River Educational Service Cooperative. The winner of the Jefferson County competition will advance to the state level.
