Museum slated to host Civil War display, teacher’s presentation


The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum will be hosting a Civil War exhibit Oct. 15-31 and an oral history presentation on the war at 6 p.m. Oct. 25, museum Director Kristi Alexander has announced.

Alexander said the Civil War Arkansas 1861-1865 traveling exhibit was developed by the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission in cooperation with the Old State House Museum and Arkansas Humanities Council. The exhibit focuses on the state’s involvement in the war.

Local historian, re-enactor and teacher Mark Kalkbrenner will speak Oct. 25 on on the 1863-65 federal occupation of Pine Bluff.

Admission is free. The museum is located at 201 E. Fourth Ave. and open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
