Arkansas Community Foundation recently announced more than $56,000 in grants to organizations serving the Arkansas Delta region, including the Monticello School District and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Program.
The Monticello School District grant is for a program to enable students qualifying for free and reduced school lunches to learn hydroponic fish farming. Students will receive agricultural training and learn about business management while earning an hourly wage.
The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship, which operates in each of the 26 Delta counties in Arkansas, was also awarded a grant to fund two $500 scholarships for single parents in each Delta county and to fund four job skills workshops throughout the Delta region for single parents looking to improve their employability.
These grants were awarded from the Arkansas Delta Endowment for Building Community, established at the Foundation in 2009 to provide a source of funding for innovative, community-based projects that will improve social and economic conditions for children and families in 26 Delta counties in Arkansas.
