With the help of Jefferson County Master Gardeners, the Southeast Arkansas Stormwater Education Program run by the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service Office designed and installed this rain garden at Liberty Utilities in Pine Bluff.
The garden was dedicated on Aug. 8 with a celebration that doubled as an educational workshop for utility employees, who learned about the purpose of rain gardens. The utility had issues with excess storm water runoff and turned to the education program for advice and help.
Rain gardens help slow down storm water, giving the water a chance to soak into the ground. They are also designed in a way that the soil can filter and remove pollutants from storm water, thereby protecting the quality of our groundwater.
