The Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc. donated basketballs and soccer balls to the Chester Hynes Community Center during an after school tutoring program Tuesday.

ICVR is working to sustain several programs and activities implemented by the former U.S. Department of Justice Weed and Seed program.

During the existence of the Weed and Seed program, the Chester Hynes Community Center served as a Weed and Seed safe haven for the Central Park neighborhood.

ICVR board member Shirley Washington stressed attaining an education with the students, while president Derrick Newby Sr. emphasized the importance of physical fitness.

“We are very pleased to be a resource for the center,” Rev. Jesse C. Turner, ICVR executive director, said. “ICVR is committed to creating a safe environment for students to learn and play.”
