Greenville Elementary honors Benchmark achievers


Greenville Elementary School recently celebrated Benchmark Achievement Day by awarding more than $2,300 in cash prizes to more than 150 students in grades one through five.

The students who scored advanced or proficient on the spring 2012 ACTAAP or IOWA Test of Basic Skills were awarded cash prizes, trophies and medallions.

The speaker for the assembly was Miss University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Raulanda Watley. Special performances and academic challenges were provided by the Pine Bluff High School Cheerleaders and Drum Line.

Funds were provided by Mr. and Mrs. Torii Hunter, graduates of Pine Bluff High School. Torii Hunter currently plays professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers.

The top students in grades three through five were awarded prizes ranging from $25 to $50. Those students are listed below by grade level:

• Third-Grade Literacy: Kayla Brown, Ciara Smith, Christopher Carter, Jarrick James, Jakyrion Whaley;

• Third-Grade Math: Kayla Brown, Ciara Smith, Jakyrion Whaley, Melvin Paul, Christopher Carter;

• Fourth-Grade Literacy: Trinity Wilson, Travionna Washington, Makayla Whitty, Elisha Taylor, Neshun Brazell;

• Fourth-Grade Math: Brionna Baker, Travionna Washington, Elisha Taylor, Markevious Hence;

• Fifth-Grade Literacy: Keayrias Beavers, Destiny Kilgore, Calvin Young, Deuntae Williams;

• Fifth-Grade Math: Keayrias Beavers, Shelton Creasey, Deuntae Williams, Rhamon Johnson, LeKevion Winston

• Fifth-Grade Science: Destiny Kilgore, Keayrias Beavers, Marrisa Bones, Brianna Williams, Deuntae Williams, Cameron Farris.
