Free classes will be offered for families of mentally ill people beginning in February.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Arkansas will sponsor the Family-to-Family Education Program beginning Feb. 7 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 6300 Trinity Drive. The series will last 12 weeks.
The course will cover information about schizophrenia, mood disorders, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, coping skills such as handling crisis and relapse; basic information about medications; listening and communication techniques; problem-solving skills; recovery and rehabilitation; and self-care around worry and stress.
The co-teachers for the Pine Bluff area will be Marquitta Magnini and Connie Detmers. Class size is limited so caregivers are urged to call to reserve a spot. Details: Call 879-4514 or 550-0369.
