Calendar of Events


This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.

February

3 —The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will present The Blue Birds during its monthly music series, Live@5, from 5-7 p.m. Cost of the evening is $5 for members and $10 for non-members and includes light refreshments. 3 — The McGehee Men’s Club Inc., will host its 18th annual McGehee Oyster Supper from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McGehee Men’s Club Community Center. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door. For more information, call 870-222-4300.

4 — Participants are asked to bring their imagination and mystery-solving skills as Cane Creek State Park in Star City offers “CSI: Nature.” A “crime” has been committed and participants must determine exactly who or what is the culprit. 9 — The Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas will host “History, Hollywood & Hair of the Dog” at 6 p.m. This fun workshop teaches participants how to bring the glamour of old Hollywood to life via cocktails. Attendees will learn the history of the beverages, how each incorporated into Hollywood and its culture, and sample the fizzy creations. The workshop also offers recipes for fabulous appetizers to serve along with the cocktails. Admission is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. 11 — This year’s edition, the 24th annual Home and Garden Seminar and Show, is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The event is sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Jefferson County, Jefferson County Extension Service and the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Clean & Beautiful Commission. Admission is free of charge. Booth space is still available for vendors for $50 for one booth and $25 for each additional adjoining booth. Sponsorships are also available: Platinum, $500; Gold, $300; Silver, $200; and Bronze, $100. Sponsors receive complimentary booths to display products or literature and will be included in any printed brochures, newspaper ads and radio coverage. 16-19 — The John McLinn Ross Players of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will present, as their annual play for young audiences, a lively stage adaptation of the award-winning children’s book “Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters.” Public performances will be held on the campus of UAPB in the Hathaway Howard Fine Arts Center. Show dates and times are: Feb. 16 (UAPB Student Night) and Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 18-19 at 3 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 and $5 for students with ID. 18 — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will mark the 25th anniversary of the Chancellor’s Benefit for the Arts beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
