Calendar of Events

This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.


6 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will host its monthly Live@5 music series from 5-7 p.m. The featured guest will be The Joe Pitts Band. For more information, contact ASC at 870-536-3375, or visit the website at

7 — Design Zone will open at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. Design Zone introduces mathematical concepts used by artists, architects, engineers, musicians, and other innovators. Future music producers, video game developers, roller coaster designers, and other creative problem solvers will learn ratio, variables, scale, slope, and a host of other math basics in this exhibition. 7 — Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas will host the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Camp Taloha at Pine Bluff. The fee is $2 per registered Girl Scout member (girls and adults). There is no fee for other family members. The registration deadline is Sept. 4. 13 — Wear your “Black and Gold” and join the Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce at a citywide pep rally to kick-off the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions’ 2013 football season. The pep rally will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UAPB campus at the W.E. O’Bryant Bell Tower. Join the UAPB football players, band and cheerleaders for food, music, entertainment and lots of team spirit. For more information, contact Kali Walker at 870-535-0110.

14 — Old Town Theatres Centre presents Linwood Peel at the Pine Bluff Country Club, 1100 Country Club Lane. Peel has created the Tribute to the Drifters. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at 7:30. Tickets are $45 per person and must be purchased in advance. Please call 870-535-2646 for tickets and more information.

14, 21 — Grace Episcopal Church, 4101 S. Hazel St., will hold its book sale from 7 a.m. to noon in Brown Hall. There will be books available for all ages and books of all subjects. Hardbacks will be $1 and paperbacks will be $.50. VHS tapes, CDs and cassettes will also be available for $.50. For more information, contact the church at 870-535-3852.

20 — The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a new event: The Taste of Southeast Arkansas. From 6:30-11:30 p.m. at the Pine Bluff County Club, attendees can enjoy an evening of delicious samplings of signature dishes prepared by celebrity chefs from across the region. This fundraiser will benefit the Jefferson County Young Professionals Network. Cost of the evening is $50 per person. Various sponsorship levels are available. 21 — The sixth annual Razorback Fly-In will take place at Grider Field Airport on from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Warbirds, vintage aircraft and homemade airplanes will be on display. The car show, including European and Corvette car clubs, as well as hot rods, will begin at 10 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be sold during the day as a fundraiser for the EAA. 25 — The Notables annual membership luncheon will be held at the Pine Bluff Country Club. A program on “Fashion Accessorizing” will be presented by Shepherd’s. Doors will open for socializing at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance from any Notables board member or by calling the Symphony Office at 870-536-7666.

29 — The Treasure Chest presents the third annual “Unforgettable” Bridal Fair & Special Events Expo from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The spectrum of events includes weddings, proms, anniversaries, reunions, showers, parties, bridal and baby shower registries, balls, fundraisers, charity events and more. The Expo will feature booth raffles, unbelievable door prizes, cake, food and catering samples, bride & groom game prize package, prom gift package raffle, a fashion show and more.
