Calendar of Events


This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.

January

12 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will hold auditions for “The Hobbit” from 1-3 p.m. Those interested in auditioning must be 8 years old or older. Adults are encouraged to audition. The magic of “The Hobbit,” directed by Tim Rhoades, will unfold on stage April 25-28 in a suspenseful, fast-moving journey through the sometimes dark, sometimes charming, always compelling world of Middle Earth. 12 — Cindy Miller will be performing her one-woman show, “I Got the Music in Me”, during the Old Town Dinner Theatre at the Pine Bluff Country Club. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and show time is 7:30. Tickets are $45 per person and must be bought in advance. The deadline to purchase tickets is Jan. 10 and can be ordered by calling 870-535-2646. Checks may also be mailed to Old Town Theatres Centre, P.O. Box 8268, Pine Bluff, AR, 71611.

12 — Delta Rivers Nature Center will host nature crafts-bird houses class. Participants are asked to call ahead and register for this free class. To register for the class, call 870-534-0011.

17 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will hold “Art with Belinda Lawson” Jan. 17 and continue each Thursday through Feb. 21. No class will be held Feb. 14. Classes will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost of the class is $85 for members and $105 for non-members. 18 — Delta Rivers Nature Center will hold a teacher workshop, “Schoolyard Habitat.” Teachers can register to get continuing education hours. For more information, call 870-534-0011.

26 — The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., will celebrate Jabberwock 2013, a talent and variety show, at 6 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. For more information, call 870-692-3403 or 870-413-1229.

28 — Child Care Awareness of Southeast Arkansas and JCCSI Parents as Teachers will host BINGO with the kids from 4 to 5 p.m. at JCCSI, 1203 W. Pullen St. For more information call, 870-536-0520.

9 — Arkansas’ first lady, Ginger Beebe, will be on-hand to celebrate the silver anniversary of the Home and Garden Seminar & Show at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. This year’s show will focus on raised-bed gardening, one of the largest growing segments in home gardens. For more information about the show, contact Ruby Poteet at 870-879-1378 or rwp8303@aol.com.
