This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.
June 30 — Banishing Racial Animosity Vigorously Everywhere, (B.R.A.V.E.) a chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters, will host its sixth annual White Party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center, 500 E. Eighth Ave. Participants are asked to purchase a reserved table in advance for $80, which includes eight seats. 2 — The Pine Bluff Community Band and Pine Bluff Musical Coterie will sponsor a patriotic music event entitled, “I Love This Land,” at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St. This program is dedicated to all veterans and current enlisted military personnel. Each branch of the U.S. military will be recognized as their respected songs are sung. A special flag display of all military branches including flags from each war fought by the United States will be in the foyer of the church for this program sponsored by Area Agency On Aging of Southeast Arkansas. The public is invited to attend.
4 — The Pine Bluff Festival Association and the Pine Bluff Parks & Recreation Department will host the “Red, White and Blues” celebration at the amphitheatre in the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park. Food vendors and children’s activities will open at noon and the stage will turn into a blues headquarters with three different bands beginning at 4 p.m. Southeast Arkansas’ largest display of fireworks will light up the sky at approximately 9:05 p.m. For more information, call 870-536-0920 or 870-536-7600.
6 — Downtown Pine Bluff will come alive with the blues when the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., hosts its monthly music series, Live@5, from 5-7 p.m. Bluesman Detroit Johnnie will perform. Cost of the evening is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. 6-7 — The Shelton Family reunion will kick off at 6 p.m. July 6 with a meet-and-greet at the Pine Bluff Arsenal Army Reserve Center. At 1 p.m. July 7 the family will enjoy food, fun and games. 7 — The New Edinburg All-School Reunion will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. A potluck luncheon will be served at noon. All those who won a door prize at last year’s reunion, are asked to bring a prize to share.
25-29 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas will present performances of ‘Hairspray’ on July 25-28 at 7:30 p.m. and July 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets go on sale July 5. For more information, call the center at 870-536-3375.
