The Phi Alpha Theta History Club at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host a “Work Hard, Play Hard Community Fun Day” at Pine Bluff’s Central Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The free, public event is a part of the “Let’s Read Pine Bluff” initiative that was created August 2012 to provide mentoring and assistance to local schools in the Pine Bluff area regarding low Benchmark scores.
“We want the children in our community to know that we have their backs,” a history club spokesman said.“We want them to be successful with whatever obstacles they face in life.”
Several organizations have partnered with the history club to provide activities everyone can enjoy. Jason Bradley and The Movement Foundation of Pine Bluff will host a kickball tournament, while the REAL-LAC-RIDAZ N DIVAZ, a Cadillac Club in Pine Bluff, will supply free BBQ meals and refreshments to children. The “Soul Searchers,” a Pine Bluff community based organization, will provide sports equipment and the UAPB Showstoppers Dance Group will perform. There will also be motivational speakers available and several community leaders will be present.
