Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., invites the community to its annual presentation of “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The service of scripture and song will be presented by the combined choirs and readers from Grace and Trinity Episcopal churches.
This historic service tells the story of the fall of humanity and the promise of the Messiah as told in nine short Bible readings, interspersed with the singing of carols, hymns and anthems.
Originating in a cathedral in Cornwall, England, in the 1870s and based on a medieval vigil service, the Lessons and Carols service was first made popular in the early 20th century at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, which continues the tradition to this day.
The choir is under the direction of Faron Wilson, organist and choirmaster of Trinity Church, and assisted by Chuck Fuller, organist and choir director at Grace Church. The service is free and all are encouraged to attend.
