Southeast Arkansas Region to celebrate Gospel Music Heritage Month


The Southeast Arkansas Region will hold a musical extravaganza at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, in celebration of Arkansas Gospel Music Heritage Month.

The Gospel Music Heritage Choir, New St. Hurricane Youth Choir, Southeast Arkansas Male Chorus, Righteous, Shiloh Baptist Church Choir, recording artist Cheryl Banks, Talvin Collins, Rev. Kent Broughton, and recording artist Dedric Jones will be the featured artists.

On Feb. 16, 2011, the Arkansas Legislature voted unanimously to recognize the month of September as Arkansas Gospel Music Heritage Month. The mission of AGMHM is to “empower faith-based communities to cross racial, ethnic, religious and geographical boundaries in gospel music and emerge as one body.”
