Simmons First Toastmasters club elects new officers

Simmons First Pine Bluff Toastmasters elected 2013-2014 officers at a recent meeting.

Officers are president, Margaret Davis; vice president for education, Phil McBee; vice president for membership, Trudy Redus; vice president for public relations, Barbara Rhinehart; and secretary/treasurer, Joyce Wilson.

Toastmasters meets each Tuesday at noon in a room next to the Council Chambers in the Civic Center.

The club’s mission is to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

According to a survey, people fear public speaking more than any other, even death. An example is Olympic Gold Medal Skating Champion Kristi Yamaguchi. She was fearless when it came to demonstrating her skating skills, but dreaded to speak in public, particularly interviews. Yamaguchi worked hard to overcome this fear. In an article in the January 2013 issue of Guideposts, she stated “When you do the thing you fear most, you put an end to fear.”

Toastmasters can help people do exactly that in the fellowship that develops in each meeting.

The public is invited to attend all meetings. For further information, contact Barbara Rhinehart at 870-534-3625.
