Simmons First Classic Club celebrates Mardi Gras

On Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday), the Classic Club of Simmons First National Bank hosted a Mardi Gras bingo party for its

members at Harbor Oaks, according to club director, Misti A. Smykla.

The tables were adorned with Mardi Gras beads, feather and sequin Mardi Gras masks, Mardi Gras hats, Mardi Gras party blowers, and purple, green, and gold balloons. Many club members were quick to wear/use the beads, masks, hats, and party blowers to celebrate the occasion.

In addition to traditional bingo games, many club members participated in a “Best Mardi Gras costume” contest. It was a close contest, but Betty Carter-Johnson was declared the winner and received a $20 Harbor Oaks gift certificate. Bingo winners, who won king-sized, praline- pecan Mardi Gras cupcakes, were Theresa Kraeszig, Faye Gant, Betty Atkinson, Donna Stewart, James Webb, Laura Richards, James Stewart, Nina Langley, Dave Richards, Genevieve Bednar, Barbara Rushing (twice), Carlton Day, Dixie Webb and Jim Blair.

In a Mardi Gras hat-tossing game, teammates Richards and Pat Becker were victors and also won king-sized, praline-pecan Mardi Gras cupcakes. Sandra Malone won the door prize, which was a $20 Harbor Oaks gift certificate.

Between bingo and other Mardi Gras-themed games, club members enjoyed a delightful Mardi Gras-drizzled cheesecake with tea and coffee.

Birthday winners for the month of January were Connie Herrin and Webb Ferrell. February’s birthday winners were Mary Helen Oliver and James Langley.

University Branch manager Magnolia Rogers and Jefferson Square Branch manager Kelly Burris assisted Smykla in decorating for the event and helped by verifying game winners during the party. Dollarway Branch manager Liz Ellis assisted during the party and took photos during the event while Hayley Wreyford from the Main Street location served as the bingo caller.
