Progressive Women’s Association elects officers at recent meeting

Members of the Progressive Women’s Association met recently at the Relyance Bank in White Hall for its monthly meeting and potluck luncheon.

Ann Douthit brought a beautifully decorated birthday cake honoring the organization’s birthday. Fried chicken was the main dish which was supplied by the board members.

President Linda Eifling conducted the business session of the meeting. The treasurer’s books had been audited by Jan Adam and Betsy Foster, and were found to be in good order.

Margie Murphy installed the following officers for 2013-2014: President, Eifling; vice president, Linda Hurd; secretary, Nancy Rosen; and treasurer, Adam.

Eifling assigned the following committees for the coming year: Ways and Means, Adam and Floretta Scott; Publicity and Sunshine, Rosen; Newsletter and Travel, Adam; Telephone, Murphy; Fall Auction and speakers, Georgia La Grave; and Scrapbook, Brenda Doucey. Monthly food groups were also assigned.

Adam reported on the recent trip to Helena and Tunica that she, Eifling and Rosen took. The group especially enjoyed the Civil War in the Arkansas Delta displays at an old train depot in Helena as well as the Civil War collections at the Phillips County Museum. The trip to Helena included a drive through the scenic Maple Hill Cemetery. After dining at a casino in Tunica, the group did a little outlet mail shopping.

The dollar pot was won by Scott, who donated it back to the organization. A birthday gift exchange was held instead of having door prizes.
