The AU-BZ Chapter of P.E.O. recently met in the home of Ann Hollingsworth, with Lynn Castleberry and Katie Wait serving as co-hostesses.
Author Shirley Taylor presented a book review of her new book, “The Stable Boy”, inspired by her personal experience with a foster child.
Following the program, president Martha Sue Pierce called the meeting to order with 32 members present. Next, was the initiation of new members, Sharon Wyatt and Elaine Dial.
Corresponding secretary, Marilyn McKelvey, read a letter from the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund recipient, Ashlyn Ruggeri. Ruggeri thanked the members for their support and said she was doing well in her studies at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She included her e-mail and address for those who would like to keep in touch.
At the next meeting, books for the Book Exchange will be donated by Pam Estes. Those interested will pick up a book in exchange for a dollar, then read the book and bring it back to a meeting for someone else to read. The proceeds will go the Courtesy Committee.
Project reports were made by Marsha Rogers, Sara Clifton and Emily Cockrum. A memorial will be sent to Cotty College in memory of Martha Hickson. Lynn Castleberry announced that anyone wanting to purchase pecans may call Whitten Concrete at 870-534-6901.
The next meeting will be held at Lakeside Methodist Church. Teresa Horton and Lisa Duke from Jefferson Regional Medical Center will present a program on “Bone Density & Women’s Health.”
