PB native receives award for work as writer at Dallas


DALLAS — Roger Russell, a native of Pine Bluff, was recently presented a Service Award at the Dallas Convention Center during The Epitomes Red Carpet Gala and Awards ceremony for his work as a staff writer for the national inspirational publication, Epitome Magazine.

The event honored those working with the magazine, as well as, those who were featured in the publication. Headlining the event was the Grammy and Stellar award-winning singer, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, among other gospel artists.

Russell is the singles columnist for the magazine and has written for the publication for about six years. He is the author of the book, “Faith Beyond the Comfort Zone”, which garnered him the Writer of the Year award from the American Christian Writers Association in 2006. He is also the founder of Servant’s Heart Ministries, which seeks to communicate, through preaching and teaching, the significance of discipleship or daily Christian living.

Russell is a 1989 graduate of Dollarway High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in English education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1994. He is an associate minister of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church at Dallas.
