A variety of hearty, homemade soups will be available Tuesday when Neighbor to Neighbor of Jefferson County holds its annual “Soup on the Go” fundraiser.
“Soup on the Go” will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Soups being sold will include chicken and dumpling, potato and taco soup, as well as a variety of celebrity soups from local chefs. Lunch is a 16-ounce container of soup plus crackers and dessert for just $7, and one quart of any of the soups with no sides is $10. Those with orders of 10 more during lunch may have the meals delivered, provided that orders are in by 3 p.m. Monday. To place an order or request an order form, call Charlotte England, director of Neighbor to Neighbor, at 870-534-2883, or e-mail the request to firstname.lastname@example.org
“There’s nothing better than soup on a winter day, especially if you don’t have to cook it yourself,” England said. “All of our soups are take-out only, so you can be headed home with a satisfying meal in just a matter of minutes.”
Neighbor to Neighbor operates a noon soup kitchen five days a week, and provides financial assistance when possible to families in need. They offer limited assistance with utility bills and medical needs, and give away clothing and furniture to the needy on a regular basis. They conduct school supply drives once a year, provide food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and also provide toys for hundreds of children each Christmas season.
Unlike some other local charities, Neighbor to Neighbor is associated with no federal organizations, and operates on grants from the United Way of Southeast Arkansas and other local groups, along with donations from the community.
