Local author’s works chosen by Prairie County Literacy Council

Author Cathy Young of Pine Bluff was recently recognized by the Prairie County Literacy Council which chose her novel “Gradma’s Rose” as a part of their collection of books.

According to a press release, the Literacy Council decided at a board meeting March 25 to obtain a copy of Gradma’s Rose for their participants to read throughout the region which includes council groups in Des Arc, DeValls Bluff, Hazen and Biscoe. Officials believed it would be an interesting story for their readers.

Young said she enjoyed writing the story in a series of novels. In “Gradma’s Rose” (book 1), Christopher loses his beloved wife, Dotty, partly due to doctors’ mistakes, and he raises two daughters alone. Christine meets a man, marries and eventually has a girl, she named after her favorite flowers, Rose. Rose is faced with many challenges that separate her from her family. In “Gradma’s Rose” (book 2), the family drama continues and ends in book 3.

A Pine Bluff native, Young attended Pine Bluff High School, is a graduate of Southeast Arkansas College, and works as a nurse in Stuttgart.

She has three daughters and has written three poetry books, “Song Birds,” “Wings of a Poetic Mind” and “Every Now and Then,” available through Author House Publishing Co., amazon.com and other outlets.
