Katherine Straus, art professor at Henderson State University, will present a varied program for the Pine Bluff Art League from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Building, 211 W. Third Ave.
She will present some of her own work, talk about the latest trends in the art world and provide critiques for members who bring art work to the meeting.
Straus has work across the nation and was recently elected into the Delta Exhibit, a prestigious show in Arkansas. She has also been selected to juror this year’s Arkansas League of Artists.
Members will also be asked to judge the “Top of the Middle” exhibit displayed in the atrium. This show will be open to the public April 14 from 2-4 p.m. at a reception hosting the seven participating middle and junior high schools in the area. All area schools were invited and only two did not enter. Sunday’s voting will determine the “Best of Show” award. All participating artists, their families and friends have received invitations, according to Marcia White, show chairman.
White said local mayors and the judge have received invitations, but anyone in the area interested in art and the area youth have a special invitation. Refreshments will be served and awards will be given to school entries as well as the top award.
The year’s fundraising project will also be introduced at the meeting, according to Mary Earl Smith, chairman.
Members are reminded to bring a painting to be judged for the Artist of the Month and a work in progress for the guest speaker to critique.
Refreshments will be served and the public is always invited to attend.
