Grace Willing Workers walk across Arkansas

Grace Willing Workers Extension Homemakers know the importance of walking and other forms of exercise to improve fitness.

In the spring, 10 members formed a team, Grace Go Getters. The team participated in Walk Across Arkansas, a program of the Cooperative Extension Service. The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the University of Arkansas system, Division of Agriculture.

The team included Verdell baker, Dixie Fritz, Scarlett Chism, Dot Hart, Connie Herrin, Delores Kelley, Betty Lacy, Mary Smith, Nancy Rosen and Marjorie Zuber. The team walked a total of 29, 154 minutes over an eight-week period. The top three participants were Baker, Hart and Herrin. Baker loves to walk her dog and reported 7,320 minutes over the eight-week period.

Participants were encouraged to walk a minimum of 150 minutes a week to improve fitness. The team also plans to participate in the fall 2013 Walk Across Arkansas.
