Elks to host National Veterans Affairs Conference

The National Veterans Affairs Conference will be held at William Townsend Lodge, U.S. 79 North, on March 21-24.

The Grand Exalted Ruler, Donald P. Wilson, and Grand Daughter Ruler, Margaret D. Scott, will be in attendance. A special dedication will be presented to the late Grand Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Brother Jodie Wade.

The Elks is the largest predominately black, fraternal organization in the world, according to a spokesman, and boasts a membership of more than 450,000 with lodges and temples in the United States, Canada, Mexico, West Indies, Panama and the Bahamas.

Through the efforts of its members and various departments, the Elks sponsor extensive educational scholarship programs. The Veterans Affairs department is one of the leading departments within the Elks organization.
