County teens participate in state 4-H conference

Three teens from Jefferson County joined more than 150 other teens from counties across the state at the 2013 Teen Leader Conference held recently at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center at Ferndale.

Brentney Sargent, daughter of Brent Sargent and Yaminah Hawkins; Tierra Williams, daughter of Sharon Graydon; and Ariana Woods, daughter of Roderick and Pia Woods, were Jefferson County’s representatives.

The Arkansas 4-H Teen Leader Conference is a three-day conference for 4-H members ages 14-19. The conference is planned for teens by teens. Each year the conference focuses on a specific theme and helps to prepare teens for leadership responsibilities in their local clubs and counties. This year’s conference theme was “THINK”, and included workshops such as “What Is Your Reality?”, “Hot Topics”, “International Issues”, and “Social Media Safety”.

The conference agenda also included interviews for Arkansas 4-H Ambassadors, the annual AR 4-H Teen Star and Hall of Fame Banquet, a talent show and community service. Ariana, AR 4-H Teen Star and Ambassador, served as an emcee during the Teen Star and Hall of Fame Awards program. Shelby Minton, daughter of Rick and Cindy Minton, was also a candidate for the AR 4-H Hall of Fame.
