This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.
5 — Messenger 7 will be the special guest from 5-7 p.m. at the monthly music series, Live@5, at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St. The event, sponsored by M.K. 5 — Delta Rivers Nature Center will host a Lunch and Learn Enforcement event at 12:15 p.m. A wildlife officer will be on hand to talk about the upcoming season and any regulation changes. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch.
6 — The closing celebration of the Farmers’ Market will be held from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Saracen Landing. The event will include a sweet potato pie contest and live entertainment. 6 — The fifth annual Razorback Fly-in will take place at Grider Field Airport from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Warbirds, vintage aircrafts and homemade airplanes will be on display. The car show, including European and Corvette car clubs, as well as, hot rods, will begin at 11 a.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold during the day. Admission and parking are free. 6-31 — Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church, 3703 Ryburn Road, will host its third annual Pumpkin Patch on the church’s front lawn. There will be pumpkins and gourds for sale, crafts, face/pumpkin painting, hay rides and refreshments. The patch will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Limited group times for school groups, daycare centers and others are welcome by appointment. For more information, call 870-879-3360.
8 — Celebrate the holidays early by joining the Jefferson County Extension Homemakers Council at its annual “Holiday Foods” event at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 717 W. 32nd Ave. Reservations for the event must be made and paid for by Sept. 28 by calling 870-534-1033 or going to the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service office at 500 S. Idaho St. Tickets are $8 each, which includes a cookbook. Extra cookbooks may be purchased for $4 each.
13 — Delta Rivers Nature Center will host a Plant Swap at 10 a.m.
14 — Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, will host its Little Miss Pink and Green Pageant at 4:30 p.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Auditorium.
14 — The Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 2012-13 season with“Masterpieces through the Ages” at 4 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center auditorium. Preferred seating season tickets are $75 for adults and $15 for students. General seating season tickets are $62 for adults and $10 for students. Student tickets are for students in K-12th grades. Everyone is required to have a ticket. Tickets will also be available at the door for each performance. All season tickets are half-price for first-time season ticket buyers. A family season ticket is also available for $165 and includes two adults and two or more students under 18 years of age. 18-20 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will present “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” at 7:30 nightly. Ticket prices for opening night are $13 for members and $15 for non-members. Other performances are $11 for members and $13 for non-members. 26-27 — The 10th annual “Boo on the Bayou” will be held at the Delta Rivers Nature Center in Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Enjoy games, crafts, face painting and animal program, plus a half-mile “Haunted Trail”. Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight and come in costume. Admission is free. Food and drink will be available. For more information, call the Nature Center at 870-534-0011.
