Calendar of Events


This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.

June

1 — The Bastille Mentalist will be performing at the Pine Bluff Dinner Theater held at the Pine Bluff Country Club. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the show at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $45. Details: Call 870-535-2646 or visit the website www.pbdtheatre.com.

1 — The Farmers Market Festival will be held from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Saracen Landing. There will be live entertainment, cooking demos, samples, children’s fun and fresh produce sold by local farmers. The market will be open through October on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, contact the Pine Bluff Parks & Recreation office at 870-536-0920.

1-13 — The American Red Cross will hold the following blood drives — 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 1, First United Methodist Church, Sheridan; 1-5 p.m. June 3, the American Red Cross Blood Services offices, 1610 W. 42nd Ave., Pine Bluff; noon-4 p.m. June 7, Baptist Health Medical Center, Stuttgart; noon-5 p.m. June 13, Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave., Pine Bluff. 5 — Live@5 at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will feature Angels & Animals from 5-7 p.m. The cost of the evening is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. For more information, contact the center at 870-536-3375 or visit www.ArtsScienceCenter.org.

8 — There will be a free health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Grant St. Details: 870-879-3202.

10-July 19 — The Pine Bluff Police Department will hold its annual Police and Youth Day Camp June 10 through July 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children 6 to 16 years old. Space is limited. The fee is $50. Details: Call 730-2077 or 730-2076.

10 — The Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson County, 2701 Short Reeker St., will hold its summer program June 10 through Aug. 2. The club hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Summer fees are: one child, $50 a week; two children, $85 a week; three children, $120 a week. Details: Call Area Manager James Britt at 870-534-2188.

10-28 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas is taking applications for summer camps for youth ages 5-18. Classes include Theatre Camp - June 10-14; Art Camp - June 17-21; and Tinkering/Science Camp - June 24-28.

17-21 — The Merchandising, Textiles and Design Program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will offer a Precollege MTD Institute this summer. Led by UAPB instructors Kalari Turner and Kaye Crippen, the institute will introduce students to fashion, fabric dyeing, career options and more. Breakfast will be provided at 8 a.m. and the workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day on the UAPB campus. Participants must be entering the ninth through 12th grades. Recent high school graduates will also be accepted. The registration fee for the institute is $100 and includes breakfast, lunch and a snack.Lunch will be provided as part of a nutrition demonstration.
