Blue Sky Country marks 20 years of entertaining the community

The year 2012 marked more than 20 years that Blue Sky Country, a country music band, has been entertaining retirement and nursing homes in the Pine Bluff area.

The band also entertains senior citizen groups, family reunions, birthdays and other events. All of the band members are retired and most of the programs are in the day time, so this works well for the nursing homes and senior citizens.

Bobby Henderson, spokesman for the band, said they sing songs that fit the occasion. At nursing homes, they sing more gospel songs and songs that the patients can sing along.

Henderson said the band has also entertained at the Bradshaw Senior Center (now the Strachota Senior Center) and the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Senior Adult Day.

“The people at these events enjoy all kinds of music, from gospel to rock and roll. Our program consists of about 20 songs,” Henderson said.

Henderson said the members of the band are also members of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and enjoy volunteering in the program.
