Akines named regional council president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha


Tammy Akines of the Beta Chi Chapter of Pine Bluff has been elected president of the 2012-13 Southeastern Regional Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

This spring, Akines will be representing the council at the Alabama and Mississippi state conventions. In July, she will be attending the international convention in Norfolk, Va.

The Southeastern Regional Council is made up of 12 states which include Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority is a philanthropic organization with a main fund-raising emphasis to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for the research and abolishment of childhood cancer, and Easter Seals for the prevention of birth defects.

ESA also is very active in local communities, statewide and nationally participating in fundraising and helping in other activities such as CASA and Neighbor to Neighbor.
