AARP sets Driver Safety class for March 18

The AARP Driver Safety Program, developed by AARP, will be offered from 12:30 to 5 p.m. March 18 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W 40th Ave.

The course is for people ages 50 and older and covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time that comes with age and provides practical techniques for dealing with these changes. A driver who completes the course will receive a certificate. By state law this certificate will enable drivers to receive a discount on their automobile insurance if they are 55 and older. This discount is good for three years under Arkansas state law.

The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members, payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license and their AARP membership card if they are members.

This is a four-hour multimedia course. There is no test to pass. The class will be taught by Bob Daugherty, a certified instructor.

Those interested in attending the class should call 870-247-4898 to pre-register. The class will be limited to 35 participants.
