AARP to offer free Driver Saftey course to veterans

To recognize and thank veterans for their dedication and commitment to service, the AARP Driver Safety Program is offering a free classroom course to all veterans, regardless of age, through Nov. 30. The course is free to veterans and their family for November only.

A class is scheduled on Saturday at Lemonwood Baptist Church at White Hall. Another class is scheduled for Nov. 23 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave. The classes will be held from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

The course is designed for senior drivers and there are no written or driving tests. The course is a four-hour refresher and offers strategies for driving more carefully and longer and includes a review of new traffic laws. Participants who complete AARP’s Driver Safety Program class will receive a certificate qualifying them for three years of automobile insurance discounts. Arkansas state law requires insurance companies to give an appropriate discount to those 55 and older.

The course fee is now $12 for AARP members (bring your membership card) and $14 for non-AARP members. To pre-register, call 870-247-4898.
