The AARP Driver Safety Program, developed by AARP, will be offered on May 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The course is being sponsored by Jefferson Regional Medical Center and the class will be held at the hospital.
The course is for people 50 and older. It covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time that comes with age and provides practical techniques for dealing with these changes.
A driver who completes the course will receive a certificate. By state law this certificate will enable drivers to receive a discount on their automobile insurance if they are 55 and older. This discount is good for 3 years under Arkansas State law.
The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non members, payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license and their AARP membership card if they are members.
This is a 4 hour multimedia course. There are no tests to pass. The class will be taught by Bob Daugherty, a certified instructor. Interested participants should call 247-4898 to pre-register. The class will be limited to 35 persons.
