The AARP Driver Safety Program, developed by AARP, will be offered on Oct. 16 from 12:30 to 5 p.m., at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave.
The course is for persons 50 and older and covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time that comes with age and provides practical techniques for dealing with these changes. A driver who completes the course will receive a certificate, which by state law enables them to receive a discount on their automobile insurance if they are 55 and older. This discount is good for three years.
The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members, and $14 for non-members, payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license and their AARP membership card if they are members. This is a four-hour multimedia course and there is no test to pass. The class will be taught by Bob Daugherty, an AARP certified instructor.
Interested individuals should call 870-247-4898 to pre-register. The class will be limited to 35 participants.
