‘Get Your Praise On’ showcases Arkansas gospel artists

“Get Your Praise On,” a music television program, is helping gifted Arkansas gospel artists share their talent.

The weekly half-hour program airs every Sunday at 9 a.m. on the CW Arkansas network. “Get Your Praise On” is the brainchild of 4th Ward Alderman George Stepps and Floyd Donald, an area broadcaster. Both men are ministers at their local church with Stepps serving as executive producer and Donald as the program’s host.

“We are trying not only to feature some of the outstanding gospel talent in Pine Bluff – but all across Arkansas,” says Stepps. “Our main goal is to spread the gospel through song.”

The show made its debut in early November of last year and, to date – according to Donald – it has been well-received.

“The response has been tremendous from the young to the old because gospel music has something for everybody,” says Donald. “When you think about what started out as a conversation between two friends and then the reality becomes ‘Get Your Praise On,’ I count it as a blessing.”

Since the program’s inception, guests have included The Shaw Boys, Dedric Jones and Chosen Praise, The Williams Singers, Nora Celestine, Tanya Stephens, Kendrick Williams Jr., Bishop Kenneth Robinson & Chosen and The Racy Brothers. Future episodes will feature The Spiritualettes, Witness and The Gospel Sonz, just to name a few.

“We aired a video of the legendary group, The Spiritual Five and received some very positive feedback,” Stepps said. He added the fact that The Spiritual Five were early pioneers of gospel music.

“We were provided a video of one of their last television performances, as a group, and to see the late Curtis Rice and the late Washington Ficklin was absolutely wonderful,” he says.

Stepps revealed that there is only one surviving member of the group and family members were pleased to see them all together again.

“Get Your Praise On” is taped locally at various churches and singing centers throughout Arkansas. At present, Stepps and Donald are formulating their taping schedule for Black History Month.
