Star City High School student wins first place in regional art exhibit


Allie Wynn, a sophomore at Star City High School, won first place in the 10th grade division at the 2012 Southeast Arkansas Regional Art Exhibit held recently at the Spencer Gallery at the Fine Arts Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

The event was sponsored by the Arkansas Art Educators Association.

The 2012 Southeast Arkansas Regional Art Exhibit included artwork from students in kindergarten through 12th grade in schools in Jefferson, Cleveland, Lincoln, Desha, Calhoun, Drew, Bradley, Union, Ashley, and Chicot counties.

Allie’s artwork, titled “Pen & Ink Turtle”, will now be included in the state Arkansas Art Educators exhibit from May 11 to July 28 at the Arkansas Studies Institute in the Butler Center Main Gallery located in the River Market District at 401 President Clinton Avenue in Little Rock. A reception will be held at 1:30 p.m. May 12.

Other Star City High School winners at the 2012 Southeast Arkansas Regional Art Exhibit include Haley Bishop, who won third place in the 10th grade division; Amber Smith, who won third place in the 12th grade division; and Mickaela Carmeans, who won honorable mention in the 12th grade division.

The exhibit also included work from the following Star City High School students: Tyler Courson, Jacob Bennett, Landen Burns, Matt Kinney, Antonio Magana and Alexandrea Sirois.

The students are under the instruction of art teacher Roger Darren High.
