“Ewe Are in Fashion” will be the theme of the Pine Bluff Christian Women Connection luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
Bobby Simpson, a Pine Bluff native and owner of TuTu’s, will be the special feature guest for the event. She will present a fashion show spotlighting a variety of casual, as well as elegant fashions.
One of the keys in business at TuTu’s, located at 2217 W. 27th Ave., is explained this way by Simpson —“If they come out of the dressing room and it doesn’t look good on them, I tell them. They’ve got a mirror at home, too. I think customers prefer to be told the truth and they know if they ask me, I’m going to tell them. I won’t tell them something looks good on them just to make a sale.” Honesty, Simpson says, is the key.
The other key is uniqueness. And she explains that one this way — “When I go to market, I walk the whole market. If I see an item in two booths, I won’t buy it because I’m looking for something unusual. I’m not going to buy it if it’s going to be everywhere.
TuTu’s opened in April 1983 as an exercise and dance wear store. However, after Simpson’s first trip to market, she decided to expand the offerings. “I saw so much stuff I loved, I had to get it”, she said.
Simpson came to TuTu’s from a background in journalism. For a time she was a police reporter for a daily newspaper. “I gave that up years ago because my husband didn’t want me chasing ambulances and the part of journalism I liked didn’t reconcile itself to raising a family.”
The special speaker for the Christian Women Connection is Elaine Vatalaro from Bella Vista. Vatalaro enjoys traveling and sharing life’s simple pleasures with everyone she meets.
With humor in childhood to pain in her adulthood, she reveals how fragile life really is. When the circumstances of life seem to break into pieces we shouldn’t depend on this world to mend us.
She titles her speaking: “Humpty Dumpty and Me; Two Egg Heads, One Cracked and One Hard Boiled.”
The cost of the luncheon is $13.50, which includes tax and gratuity. Reservations can be made by calling Nancy Sumner at 870-879-2049.
This event is sponsored by the Christian Women Connection, which is a part of Stonecroft Ministries in Kansas City, Mo. Christian Women is a non-denominational group with no formal membership, attendance requirements, or dues. There are some 1500 groups meeting throughout the United States and Canada.
