Drew County Historical Society to host benefit dinner

The Drew County Historical Society will host a special benefit at the Monticello Country Club on Aug. 3. Jack Lassiter, chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Monticello, will be the guest of honor.

Lassiter has agreed to be “toasted and roasted” by his friends and colleagues. The speakers will share funny anecdotes about Lassiter’s life. The dinner will be a buffet-style meal catered by the Country Club. The society will also hold a silent auction and a live auction with Judge McElroy of Desha County as master of ceremonies. Viewing of items for the auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be at 7 p.m.

The fundraiser will benefit the Drew County Historical Society. With the assistance of Drew County, the society maintains the historic, century-old Cavaness house as a museum, maintains the Drew County Archives located behind the museum, publishes the Drew County Historical Journal each year, and provides historical programs for the county.

The cost of tickets is $40 per person and $75 per couple. To purchase tickets for this special event, contact Connie Mullis, society president, at Mullis Insurance on the square or at 870-367-5268; or call Terri Wolfe, treasurer, at 870-723-2351. Checks should be made payable to the Drew County Historical Society. Society board members are also selling tickets. Seating is limited.
