The Classic Club of Simmons First National Bank recently returned from a delightful overnight trip to northwest Arkansas where they toured the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
This was the group’s first trip with new club director, Misti A. Smykla.
Upon the group’s arrival at the Hampton Inn in Rogers, the hotel welcomed the travelers with a lovely reception. After an opportunity to “freshen up,” many in the group shopped and dined at the spectacular Pinnacle Hills Promenade outdoor shopping center, while others stayed in to cheer on the Hogs (basketball) against Ole Miss.
The next morning, after enjoying a wonderful hot breakfast at the hotel, the group headed to Crystal Bridges. At the museum, the Classic Club members and guests took guided tours of the permanent and temporary collections of works. At completion of the guided tours, the group gathered in the museum’s great hall to enjoy a delicious catered meal, coordinated by the museum’s chef and culinary services department. The great hall is glass-enclosed on three sides and appears to “float” on the crystal waters below, making for a perfect setting to witness the breathtaking natural scenery of the valley and bluffs that surround the museum and the awesome architecture of the facility. The group then had additional time to shop at the museum store, visit other collections and exhibits, and walk the beautiful grounds before heading back home. Aside from being windy, the day was perfect for visiting the museum.
Crystal Bridges takes its name from Crystal Spring — a natural spring on the museum’s wooded site that feeds into the museum ponds — and from the unique bridge construction incorporated into the building design. The building was designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie.
