Courtney Backus and James Norton plan June wedding


LITTLE ROCK — Mr. and Mrs. Kim Billingsley Backus of Little Rock are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Courtney Michelle, to James Hunter Norton, son of Sharon Hunter Norton and Charles W. “Wimpy” Norton Jr., both of Pine Bluff.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dr. Michael Joseph Pickering of Tampa, Fla., and the late Sylvia Alvarez Pickering and Loraine Billingsley Backus of Little Rock, formerly of Pine Bluff, and the late Howard Lee Backus.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mrs. Roy W. Hunter of Pine Bluff and the late Mr. Hunter and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Winfrey Norton, also of Pine Bluff.

A 2002 graduate of Little Rock Central High School, Miss Backus graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 2007 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and serves as a lifetime membership advisor and alumnae vice president of social events. She is the director of special events and workforce for the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce in Rogers.

Mr. Norton graduated in 2001 from Pine Bluff High School and in 2005 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he received a bachelor of science in business administration degree in finance. He is a commercial real estate workout specialist for Simmons First National Bank in Fayetteville. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

An outdoor ceremony is planned Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Belgian Meadows in Little Rock.
