Volunteers deserve pat on the back

Editor, The Commercial:

I’d like to extend an enormous thank you to all the volunteers in our city. Gov. Mike Beebe has declared September as Volunteer Month.

The Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Community Services and Nonprofit Support Groups say that Arkansas volunteers provide services and problem-solving skills to people and communities throughout the state. The agency also declared that last year 846 volunteer organizations in Arkansas reported that volunteers served more than 22 million hours! The estimated value of those hours totaled $624 million.

This year’s theme is “Volunteers; Hands that Serve, Hearts that Care.” This theme coincides with the theme of our neighborhood watch groups here in Pine Bluff, which is “The Neighborhood Watch Groups with a Heart.”

So if you’re a volunteer in any capacity I would like to say, “thank you,” and if you know a volunteer give them a great big hug and a pat on the back for doing great things that matter without being paid.
